January 7, 2010

President Jeff Jensen called the meeting to order at 6:00 PM.
Jeff reminded members and nonmembers that dues for 2010 are due.
If you have already renewed your membership for 2010, we thank you. If you have not renewed or started your SMMUG membership it is easy. You can go to our website at www.smmug.org, click on the link “Join SMMUG," and from the page that comes up you can choose to use our online form via PayPal or credit card or you can choose to download the form and either mail it in or bring it to our next meeting.

6:00 PM – Q & A
Some of the questions asked were about security on the Mac, iphoto, and the best program to edit photos for desktop publishing. There was some discussion about syncing calendars on two iphones and the use of Mobile Me to facilitate this task. One of the Members mentioned Gimp an open source photo editing program.

The group was reminded about the Special interest groups that meet at Voelker Research on Saturday, January 9, 2010. The Mac User SIG starts at 10:00 AM. Bring your digital photography tips, tricks and questions and show off your best Christmas cards and presents. Weather permitting, Gary Colnar will give a special presentation on his new camera and some of his latest photos and answer questions related to his favorite photography software tools.

7:00 PM – Codewaeaver’s Crossover Mac lets you run your favorite Windows application seamlessly on your Intel Mac. To obtain the discount contact sales@coweavers.com. Jon Parshall presented a movie, a short briefing, and demonstrated this amazing software. Jon was present via live iChat from Minnesota.
Other interesting points about this program are that it installs in approximately 4 minutes and is a self contained program in your library folder. You can keep your document files in other folders. It is compatible with over 7000 applications and may possibly work with your windows program that has simply not been tested. There is a free demo version and Jon Parshall encouraged our members to give it a try with a free demo version.
